Captain America Romper

June 9, 2014 by Emily 34 Comments

Superheros seem to be a theme around here these days.  I’m working on a few projects right now that involve superheros, and previously, I made these knobs, and these mugs.  I guess a house full of boys will do that.  With the Fourth of July being just around the corner, I decided that Captain America would be the perfect superhero for the Little Monkey’s Fourth of July outfit.  This was a quick and easy project with Silhouette Flocked HTV, and the Captain American symbol and shield is an easy design to create.  This could have easily been a t-shirt or onesie, but I used a romper by Rabbit Skins that I found at Amazon. (Affiliate Link.) These come in many different sizes and colors, and are perfect to create a patriotic Captain America Romper.

My Mom Made This: Captain America Romper

While you are able to layer smooth HTV, this doesn’t really work with Flocked HTV.  This means, that I needed to make sure that each of my components of the design could fit easily into one another.  I was careful to make sure that I started with the first red circle, making a doughnut shape, and saved this part of the design.   By the way, using the clothing tag and a ruler is a quick and easy way to center your design.
My Mom Made This: Captain America RomperOnce that shape was cut out, I needed to use the exact same size circle for the white circle of the shield.  The star was centered inside this white circle, and the pieces around the star, which were the blue part of Captain America’s shield, were simply negative space.  With the color of the romper, they because the missing circle of the shield.  If everything is sized identically. the white HTV fits right into the outer red HTV circle for a seamless fit when you iron it into place.

Once the design is ironed on, I was done! It was a very quick project, and I loved the look of the romper. The Little Monkey going to look great running around outside wearing his romper and sandals while we wait for the fireworks to start!

By the smile he was wearing when we tried it on, I think the Little Monkey must have liked the romper.

HTV is so easy to use. I struggle more with the smooth HTV, but is it very easy and fun to create things with!
