Georgia is the Pecan capital of the world, did you know that? When we drive down to Florida from Atlanta to visit family, we stop at the Pecan farms to pick up some freshly picked Pecans. I’m not sure of the proper Southern pronunciation of pecan, as I have friends from the South who pronounce the nuts many different ways. (Do you call them Pee-CANs or Pee-CONs?) Regardless, around this time of year, my thoughts turn to pecans (and pumpkin) recipes. My favorite pie is Pecan Pie (yes, I have a recipe that I plan on sharing), and my favorite candy is Pecan Pralines (yes, I have a recipe for pralines as well). Today I want to share with you a quick and easy pecan brunch food that is easy to make with Pillsbury Sweet Rolls— Pecan Praline Monkey Bread. The recipe takes like a doughy, buttery version of praline candy, and it’s the perfect brunch treat this holiday season. Take it to your office party, or church function– it’s extra delicious and so easy to make!
I’m not sure where the term monkey bread comes from (Wikipedia doesn’t even know for sure), but there are many different variants of the recipes. If you visit the Pillsbury home page, you’ll find a dozen or more variants of Monkey bread. Some use the Pillsbury Grands! Biscuits, and some use the sweet rolls. Depending on the bread you use as a base, you’ll need to add more or less sugar.
You can also use either the Grands! Sweet Rolls, or regular Pillsbury Sweet Rolls. The recipe will work for either; however, if you want a fuller and fluffier version of the recipe, the Grands! Sweet Rolls is the way to go.
- 2 Packages of Pillsbury Sweet Rolls
- 1 Cup (1 Stick) of Melted Unsalted Butter
- 1/2 Cup Chopped Pecans
- 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
Start by cutting your Pillsbury Sweet Rolls into quarters (if not using Grands!) or sixths (if using grands), and set aside.
Mix the melted butter, pecans, brown sugar and vanilla in a bowl. Blend the ingredients well. As you can see from the picture above, you can have a little helper mix and assist with the process. Then add the sweet rolls pieces to the mixture and mix until the butter-sugar-pecan mixture coats all of the pieces of sweet roll.
Grease a bundt pan thoroughly— this is important, else pieces of the sweet roll will stick to the top, and the bread will not hold its shape. Then put the sweet rolls pieces into the bundt pan, and put in a 350 oven for 45-50 minutes.
After carefully removing the monkey bread from the pan, heat the frosting for 20 seconds in the microwave (remove the metal top!), and drizzle it over the top of the monkey bread. Serve and enjoy!
