Romantic Rose Jasmine Sugar Scrub

February 4, 2016 by Emily 2 Comments

I have to admit that I’m still learning about essential oils, and I am coming at them from a different point of view than many of the websites out there. I don’t completely understand all of their therapeutic benefits, and I’m not trying to fully maximize those aspects. I do recognize that different scents make you feel differently. Some make you feel calm and relaxed, some make you have more energy. My Peppermint Tea Tree Body Wash really makes me feel alive and refreshed, and I know that the essential oils contribute to that sensation. For Valentine’s Day, I wanted to make a romantic scented sugar scrub, and I did some reading, trying to find a good blend. I picked up some Jasmine essential oil recently, and it smells heavenly.  I actually wasn’t sure how best to blend it with other essential oils.  Believe it or not, searching for blends took me quite a while because I didn’t really want to buy any more essential oils– if I keep it up my sweet Mellow Man is going to start asking questions about all of these little bottles in my house.  Then I came upon an awesome blend of Rose and Jasmine essential oils that is accented by Ylang Ylang.  I tried the blend, and it is heavenly, floral and perfect for a Valentine’s Day gift!  Thus, I created a Rose Jasmine Sugar Scrub for this blend.

Sugar scrubs are SO easy to make.  I’m sure that you’ve seen the recipes.  And basically, they are easy to make with just two primary ingredients– oil and sugar.  There are options about the type of oil and type of sugar.  I am going to explain why I used what I did, but know that you can make your own sugar scrub that varies from mine, and still get a great product.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups of White/Granulated Sugar
  • 3/4 Cup Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Vitamin E Oil
  • 3 Tbsp Sweet Almond Oil
  • Rose, Jasmine and Ylang Ylang Essential oils (in a ratio of 3:2:1 based on your preferences, I’ll describe what I did below.)
  • Liquid Soap Colorant, optional

I stared the Rose Jasmine Sugar Scrub by melting the Coconut oil in a Pyrex measuring cup.  My house is cold and it can “firm up.”  Usually 30 seconds softens it and makes some of it liquid.  I mixed the softened coconut oil and sugar together in a bowl.  In a small measuring cup, I added my Vitamin E Oil and Sweet Almond Oil, and added my essential oils to that oil.  I started with 18 drops of Rose, 12 drops of Jasmine and 6 drop of Ylang Ylang essential oils.  I then poured the oil mixture into the bowl with the sugar and coconut oil.  I blended it, and checked to see if I wanted to add anymore oil.  I then added another 6 drops of Rose, 4 drops of Jasmine and 2 drops of Ylang Ylang.  Finally, I added the liquid soap colorant until I got it a shade of pink that I thought was perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Please note: My Jasmine was a diffusion in Jojoba oil because of the cost of 100% pure Jasmine essential oil.  If you are using 100% Jasmine essential oil, the ratio of Jasmine will need to be less.

I used sweet almond oil because it is said to be a good moisturizing carrier oil, great for massages, and I wanted an oil that was liquid at room temperature to go along with the coconut oil.

I also decorated the tag with some Valentines heart washi tape to add to the romantic appearance.

This week is Teacher Appreciation week at my little Monkey’s school, so I filled up 3 jars of this Romanic Rose Jasmine Sugar Scrub to give to each of his teachers.  I figured after washing their hands with that industrial soap a dozen times a day in their classroom, they would probably need something a moisturizing and floral to enjoy.

Do you like Rose and Jasmine scents?  Have you made a sugar scrub?  What are your tips and tricks?
