DIY Moisturizing Hand Soap for the Winter

A few months ago, I shared the “recipe” that I have been using for the DIY Homemade Handsoap that we’ve been using in our house.  However, I’m a person who is prone to developing extremely dry and cracked skin during the winter.  And crafting with glues and paints, and all of the messes that the little boys means that I wash my hands a lot, so they get dried out even easier.  When we started running out of our current batch of hand soap, I decided to make some more DIY moisturizing hand soap for the winter that had a greater proportion of enriching carrier oils.

Use Castile Soap and moisturizing carrier oils along with essential oils for scent to create an easy DIY Moisturizing Hand Soap for the winter to prevent drying and cracking hands.

Ingredients for DIY Moisturizing Hand Soap

Plant Therapy Essential Oils

Carrier oils have many different properties, and some are more nourishing and moisturizing than others.  For this hand soap recipe I used two that are great for dry skin and that are easily absorbed by the skin.  Avocado oil is very rich and an excellent moisturizing, and is excellent for dry and aging skin, so I opted to use it for this batch of soap.

Similarly, Jojoba Oil is wonderful for dry skin.  It is actually a liquid wax and has a composition similar to the natural oils produced by our bodies, which makes is a wonderful natural moisturizer.   For my regular batch of hand soap, I use jojoba oil, but for this recipe, I increased the proportion of the Jojoba Oil, and added the heavier avocado oil.

All you need to do to make the soap, is get a large measuring cup, a small whisk and your ingredients, and blend them all together.  Once everything is well blended, add some of the preferred soap colorant if you’d like to get the color soap you’d like.

Because it’s nearly Valentine’s Day, and I’m ready to start thinking about springtime, I added the Sensual Essential Oils Synergy Blend by Plant Therapy because it felt perfect for this time of year.  It’s very floral, and is supposed to be a romantic synergy blend!
