The Monkey loves Goldfish crackers, particularly when he gets home from preschool and needs a little quiet time after a day of playing and learning. He asks to watch one of “My Shows, not grown-up shows!” and requests Goldfish crackers and a cup of milk. He also likes to be independent. That’s very important for him. We keep most of his straws, cups and dishes at a level that he can reach because it’s very important that he does it “all by myself.” I made with a clear storage jar and some spare vinyl this quick and easy DIY Goldfish Snacks Jar, so that the Monkey can get his own yummy Goldfish Crackers.
It’s the middle of basketball season around here. It’s January, and for middle school basketball, we have about 8 more weeks of games. (Then AAU season starts, but that is another kettle of fish entirely.) The Big One plays a lot of basketball between lessons, games, and practice, we are often running from gym to gym. I’ve picked up a fair amount of spirit wear as a sports mom, including several basketball mom shirts, but the reality is that I can always use a few more. I decided to use my Cricut Explore Air to create my very own Basketball Mom shirt. I’m going to share the shirt with you today, along with a quick tutorial to show you how to turn font and images into a single Welded image. By doing this, your designs become even easier to position on fabric, and you don’t have unexpected cut lines.
Based on my Facebook feed, I would hazard a guess that I’m not the only woman out there who is thrilled that we are getting to see what happened to Rory and Lorelai in the last ten years in new episodes of the Gilmore Girls. I’m not sure what made this show a cult classic for women, but it was. It was for me. I have the complete series on DVD, just in case Netflix decides to stop making them available. The Mellow Man says that while he is in love with Lauren Graham, the dialogue on the show is rather exhausting and fast. That got me to thinking– maybe that’s why we women love the show so much! It’s the clever repartee between Rory and Lorelai Gilmore. There are so many great conversational moments and quotes from the Gilmore Girls, particularly from Lorelai Gilmore, and I have a hard time picking my overall favorite. That being said, I think one of my top 5 quotes is about flexibility, “As long as everything is exactly the way I want it, I’m totally flexible.” That quote describes me, and actually most of my household. In honor of the release of all new Gilmore Girls episodes and my love of the show, I used that quote to create an easy Gilmore Girls Fan Notebook.
One of my family’s Christmas traditions is the addition of a meaningful Christmas ornament to each child’s ornament collection every year. I have a great collection of ornaments that date back to the year I was born, and when my boys move out and start their own families, their ornament collections will go to their new homes to decorate their own Christmas Tree. (My mom has on her own tree an ornament made each year by my grandmother that she was a child.) The Big One has an extensive ornament collection that includes the Steelers (his favorite team), Zoo Animals, and Harry Potter— all favorites during particular stages of his life. The Little Monkey just has his “My First Christmas” ornaments, but it’s time to grow his collection. Using my cutting machine (one can use either a Silhouette or Cricut machine), I decided to create some easy glitter and vinyl ornaments that featured special firsts for my boys. We just went to see Santa, and had our Little Monkey cry hysterically, so I made a Santa ornament for him. For the Big One I made a special Minecraft ornament. He’s obsessed with Minecraft right now.
