I started hearing about Benedict Cumberbatch long before I had heard of Sherlock. Maybe I should have heard about Sherlock first, but regardless, the show is brilliant. The humor and dialogue is witty and sharp-edged. My only complaint is the number of episodes in each season. I need more than 3 to 4 episodes a year. (Producers at BBC, do you hear me? Seriously, Downton Abbey had at least 6 a season!) I can’t be sure of what quote is my favorite, as Sherlock has so many great one-liners, but in the episode Scandal in Belgravia, he tells Irene Adler, “Think. It’s the new sexy.” For those of us who are a bit on the geeky side, it’s definitely an appealing quote, so I decided to create a simple embroidered Sherlock quote, as my homage to the series.
Based on my Facebook feed, I would hazard a guess that I’m not the only woman out there who is thrilled that we are getting to see what happened to Rory and Lorelai in the last ten years in new episodes of the Gilmore Girls. I’m not sure what made this show a cult classic for women, but it was. It was for me. I have the complete series on DVD, just in case Netflix decides to stop making them available. The Mellow Man says that while he is in love with Lauren Graham, the dialogue on the show is rather exhausting and fast. That got me to thinking– maybe that’s why we women love the show so much! It’s the clever repartee between Rory and Lorelai Gilmore. There are so many great conversational moments and quotes from the Gilmore Girls, particularly from Lorelai Gilmore, and I have a hard time picking my overall favorite. That being said, I think one of my top 5 quotes is about flexibility, “As long as everything is exactly the way I want it, I’m totally flexible.” That quote describes me, and actually most of my household. In honor of the release of all new Gilmore Girls episodes and my love of the show, I used that quote to create an easy Gilmore Girls Fan Notebook.
Super Mario Brothers games are kind of the Mellow Man’s thing. We have gaming systems that are for the whole family, but the Mellow Man is the master of Super Mario Brothers. He’s told me that he first got hooked on the original Super Mario Brothers on the NES system in the late 80’s. He also played Donkey Kong before that. Since the original game, he has every Mario Brothers game that nintendo released. It’s the main reason we got a WiiU– to play the new MarioKart and Super Mario Brothers. I get him a lot of Mario Brothers related gifts, and fan art. While I usually buy his Super Mario Art, for Father’s Day, I decided to make him a present for his office using a painting canvas and Perler beads (affiliate link). I love how it turned out, and thought he could put it next to his “Seriously” sign.
