I used to be a big paper crafter.  Huge.  I was an avid scrapbooker, and then the world became digital, and while I still love photos, and photoshop, I allowed my craftiness to diversify.  However, I consider paper crafts to be my happy place, and my Silhouette Portrait is a great tool for paper crafting.  Now historically I have made cards with stamps and a paper cutter, so this was my first time making a card with my Silhouette.  Let me tell you, I’m impressed!  It made a custom card very easily.  I am always in need of Thank You cards for people, and I found this lovely mat background that I wanted to design my cards around.  It had this Moroccan feel to it, so I decided that I wanted to use bright colors and to create a Moroccan Thank You card.

I found a colored paper pack that was actually called Moroccoan Brighs, and they were the perfect accompaniment for the card.  I used my Silhouette to create a rectangular shape that was approximately 1/8 of an inch smaller than the card size.  I cut these out in a mustard-yellow colored paper, and attached them to the back of the card.

The second layer of the card was the jeweled blue lattice, which actually made my friendly Portia sing, as it cut the design. I attached this to the yellow background using mini glue dots carefull stretched along the edges and on the inside of the lattice.  This gave it a secure, but slightly raised look.

I then cut the paper for the flower, and the used the red for the bottom layer or the flower, and the mustard-yellow with a white background.  If you buy this particular pattern, and want to use a white layer behind the yellow, you’ll need to take the smaller circle, and duplicate it.  Then remove the center cut outs from the design so that only the outside floral border remains. In the center of the flowers, I placed yellow rhinestones with stickers on them. (In case you were wondering, I made the cards for a swap, so I ended up making a lot of flowers!)

I used a red label shape that felt “Moroccan” to place the words, “My Friend” on the front of the card.  The red for the layer was the same jewel tone that I used for the flower.  I used the Weld tool to position the letters in such a way that the words “My Friend,” were attached together and in one piece.  If you haven’t tried the tool out, it’s a great way to create your own word art and sayings.  This takes a little playing with to make everything look neat and organized, but it was so much easier to be able to pick up the entire saying, “My Friend,” and place in on the card than to try to place each letter on it.

On the inside of the card, I simply put the expression “Thank You.”  The words were all attached with a glue stick.  After adhering the words, I found that there would be bits of glue around the edges.  I lightly wiped the excess glue away with a paper towel.
