As I mentioned on Monday, here is the second set of Super Mario Brothers Coasters that go with the first set of coasters.  I really have a full collection of Super Mario Brothers Perler Bead Art for Mellow Man’s Father’s Day gifts!  I have included this set, for more images that I liked: the Cheep Cheep, Lakitu’s Cloud, the Star Power Up and the Question Block.  I have also created the downloadable patterns to go with each design, as well as, sharing the original source that inspired me to create the coaster.

I started making these designs by using the large tub of 11,000 Perler beads (affiliate link), which is a great starting point; however, it is likely that you will ultimately run out of certain colors.  I needed to supplement the large bucket of beads with individual packages of beads, specifically in white, black and blue.  These colors are all available on Amazon as well, but it is actually somewhat cheaper to go to the Perler Beads website (by EK Success) and get the colors you want there.  (If you buy more than 6 packages, the prices really drop!)

As with the first set of coasters, all of these designs were made as 20 by 20 squares using these pegboards (affiliate link).  These particularly pegboards are much larger than the coasters, which allows plenty of room for the design, and don’t require you to be exact with your centering.

Cheep Cheep

Here is the pattern for the Cheep Cheep.  I found the Cheep Cheep design with the set of coasters that included the Bullet Bob design I used.  I used a raspberry/salmon colored bead for this design, which isn’t entirely accurate.  I think the real Cheep Cheep is a true red.

Question Block

Here is the pattern for the Question Block. The pale grey shade in the pattern is the clear beads that I used in the design.  I found the design for the Question Block on this site along with the design for Lakitu’s Cloud (shown below).

Lakitu’s Cloud

In case you are wondering, Lakitu is the name of the little character who throws down enemies for Mario and Luigi to ward off. If you are lucky, Mario or Luigi can climb into the cloud to float above obstacles.  Here is the pattern I have created for download of Lakitu’s Cloud.  It is based on the design from the site mentioned previously.

Star Power Up

The Star Power Up is one of the most popular Perler Bead designs. There were many variations of the Star Power Up that differ in design and in shading. I actually wasn’t crazy about any of them, so I ended up creating my own shading based on a composite of multiple designs. The final design is available for download.

Father’s Day is almost here, and Mellow Man has already seen his Perler Bead coasters.  I have a hard time keeping secrets.  I’m having so much fun creating these for him (and the rest of us!)  What are you making for the fathers in your life?
