My Big One is good at sports.  He’s a natural athlete.  I’m not sure where he got it because I don’t like sports, and his dad isn’t particularly coordinated.  He’s impressive, and I’m often in awe of his abilities.   After a number of years of playing many different sports, he’s settled on basketball as his primary sport, and spends hours each week playing.   Now that he’s a tween and working out so much, he’s always hungry.  ALWAYS!  We’re going through 3 to 4 gallons of milk each week and about 3 loaves of bread.  Trying to find a filling, delicious and portable afternoon snack for him to carry to sports can be a hassle.  His usual preferred snacks are coconut water and some dairy product, such as string cheese or yogurt.  Right now, he’s been loving and consuming huge quantities of Dannon Danimals® Smoothies.  He grabs a couple of those little bottles as we dash out the door to his practices.

The sweet little Monkey spends his time watching his brother play basketball, and is patiently waiting his turn to play basketball.  (There is a 3-p to 4-year-old team in our neighborhood, so he’s excited for his birthday.)  He admires his brother’s performance on the field, as well as his trophies and medals.  Since he hasn’t had a chance to win any trophies, we made up a bowling game with the Dannon Danimals® smoothie cups that we had in our house, and created a trophy together for a prize.

Right now at Walmart, in the Dairy section, you are able to pick up collector’s edition, special NFL Fuel Up Play 60 Dannon Danimals. These packages of Dannon Danimals® are a part of the Play 60 contest, where children are able to win a Play60 Field Day with the NFL if you find the “Golden Bongo” bottle. They are in packs of 12, and there isn’t a flavor that the Big One doesn’t like for his after school snack. In fact, I brought home two 12-packs, and by himself, he consumed an entire package in two days. That meant that we had lots of smoothie bottles to recycle. They are darling little bottles with characters on them, and they look like bowling pins.

Before we started bowling, we decided to make a trophy with two styrofoam cups. We specifically recycled styrofoam because, the cups are easier to work with for this craft. The Monkey and I painted the cups with the DecoArts Dazzling Metallics Paint in Glorious Gold. I used this particular paint because it has the best coverage for metallic coloring that I know of (that isn’t a spray paint). It took about 3 coats to fully cover the cups.

Then we painted them with a light coat of iridescent glitter. After the cups dried overnight, I connected the two cups with a chenille straw by poking holes in the bottom of both cups and looping the chenille straw through the holes and tightening the straw. Then we twisted together gold and silver chenille straws to make handles for the trophy.  This is why having styrofoam works so well– you can poke holes directly into the cup.  Finally, the little Monkey went to town covering the trophy with stickers, and we placed a large trophy decal in the center of the top part of the trophy.

Once the trophy was ready to be awarded, I helped the little Monkey set up his Dannon Danimals Bowling Pins.  He got to show his little brother how to bowl, and had a great time bowling and knocking his “pins” over.

I was very impressed with how long the Monkey “bowled” before he decided to enjoy playing with his trophy. Those little Dannon Danimals® bottles really fueled his adventures! Most importantly, they aren’t only great bowling pins, but as they have only the good stuff, they are a great after school snacks for any kiddo! They have with no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors or colors, and are a good source of calcium and vitamin D.

How do you fuel the after afterschool adventures of your little champions?
