My husband, the Mellow Man, loves the spice ginger. He likes to add it to everything. He adds it to all our stirfries, and our burgers, and many other recipes that he prepares. So when I find a recipe with a good amount of ginger in it, I put it on my to try list. He also really likes Teriyaki sauce. I didn’t know realize it, but Teriyaki sauce is basically soy sauce (my favorite) with ginger, sugar and saki. What’s even cooler is that you don’t have to buy store bought Teriyaki, as you can make your very own. Now, I have made marinades that are similar to a Teriyaki sauce that we regularly enjoy, like my Yakitori recipe, or my Sesame Ginger Pork Tenderloin, but neither recipe had quite the zing of a true Teriyaki Sauce. Today I’m going to share with you a new homemade Teriyaki marinade that everyone in my house seemed to enjoy in Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin.

My Mom Made That: Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin

This is a super easy marinade to make, and will only take you about 15 minutes to prepare. However, it is one that will need a number of hours to allow to marinade. Rememder you can also prep it the night before, and then stick in the fridge and forget about it until dinner time!

Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin Ingredients

  • One 2-lb Pork Tenderloin
  • 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tsp Freshly Grated Ginger
  • 2 Tbsp Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/8 Tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 Tsp Sesame Oil
  • 5 Finely Chopped Green Onions (stems and bulbs)
  • Sesame Seeds

My Mom Made That: Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin

The real secret to the marinade is the freshly grated ginger. It adds so much more seasoning than the ground ginger. Take the soy sauce, ginger, brown sugar, garlic powder, black pepper and onions and mix together. Pour over the Pork Tenderloin. I place the marinade and pork in a zilock bag because I think it blends and soaks better that way, but there isn’t a reason that a dish won’t work as well in a pyrex dish.  Just remember to flip it over.

After it has thoroughly marinaded, for at least 3 hours, place in an oven safe dish. Include the marinade with the meat in the dish, and sprinkle generously with sesame seeds.

My Mom Made That: Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin

Bake at 400 degrees for 40-50 minutes, flipping over approximately halfway through the cooking. When you flip it over, feel free to toss on some more sesame seeds if you like them. Also consider tossing on a few extra green onion pieces for garnish towards the end.
