Baby it’s cold outside!  Finally! Well, December came and went, and it wasn’t that bad, but now it’s the season for soup, stews and foods that warm you.  It’s also the season to relax and regenerate from the chaos and overindulgence of the holidays.  (Or is my family the only one living in chaos over Christmas?) Soup has this ability to really help center me, particularly more nutritious and healthy options.  If you realize that you have a person that still needs a holiday gift, or you want to give them a New Years or Get Well Soon gift, soup and a personally decorated bowl are a great choice.  I made this super easy DIY winter soup bowl with a few paint pens and my Silhouette Portrait.  It is a perfect accompaniment for the yummy Progresso Light soups that I have been eating.

My Mom Made That: Easy DIY Winter Soup Bowls

This project is very easy to do yourself, but it did take a little while.  I knew that I wanted to do a snowflake design because it seemed perfect to go with a soup bowl.  There is nothing like a warm bowl of soup in snowy weather!  I found a design that I liked in the Silhouette Online Store, and created vinyl stencils like I have for previous projects.  I then used my Sharpie oil-based pens, light blue, dark blue and silver, to create dots everywhere on the bowl.

My Mom Made That: Easy DIY Winter Soup BowlsNow I started with the first color, and covered it all over with small dots, and then repeated the step with the second color, and then repeated the step with the third step.  To help with the overlapping and random nature of the design, I then went back to the first color, and concentrated the dots around the snowflake.  I then moved on to the second and then third color.  It took around 45 minutes to get the distribution of colors the way I wanted them.

When you have the dots distributed the way you want, set the bowl aside and allow it to dry.  It won’t take very long.  Then slowly remove the vinyl.   The design looked very nice, and I knew the bowls would be perfect for steaming bowls of soup.

My Mom Made That: Easy DIY Winter Soup BowlsThese bowls are perfect for the New Year paired with the 10 varieties of Progresso Light Soup because they are flavorful, warm, and great way to recover from all of the overindulgence of Christmas.  Plus, for me, who has been under the weather with a few winter colds, I can’t think of a tasty way to recuperate!  We’ve picked up our Progresso Light soups at Publix, and the soup comes in flavors that I love (The Cream Potato), and Mellow Man loves (Chicken Noodle)!
