There are certain activities that we do every year to celebrate the fall around our house. For example, we visit our Church Pumpkin Patch, and have lunch there on afternoon. We go to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens to see the Scarecrows in the Garden. The little boys participate in the neighborhood Halloween parade. The best part of the last 3 months of the year is all of the wonderful celebrates and family activities in our community, and I’m sure that most people have similar community activities that help you celebrate Halloween and the fall. Plus, there are is a new Moonlight Madness family event at our local Atlanta-Area Krogers. Pumpkin picking is likely one of my most favorite fall family activities. We tend to pick quite a few decorative ones that we won’t carve, so this year I used a few basic shapes in on my Cricut Explore Air™ to make a quick and easy DIY ghost pumpkin (or two) with vinyl.
All I needed was some black Cricut vinyl and two circles or ovals for eyes. As you can see you can make your ovals look any shape or size using Cricut Design Space. Similarly you can make a traditional jack-o-lantern face if you’ve don’t have a cute little pumpkin that is called a “Ghost” pumpkin. Just cut out your basic Cricut Shapes (where it says “Insert Shapes”)
We picked up our little Ghost Pumpkins when we went pumpkin picking in North Georgia. We picked up our decorative pumpkins just outside of Atlanta at Burt’s Pumpkin Patch in Dawsonville, Georgia. It’s about a 75 minute drive from our house. They have so many different varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds there to choose from– from traditional carbing pumpkins to varieties so unusual and pretty that you definitely don’t want to carve them.
And some of the pumpkins are as big as the kids!
Buying fancy pumpkins means that we don’t want to carve them up right away to allow them to rot. These super simple vinyl decals means we aren’t carving up the pretty pumpkins and they can continue to serve as decorations as we move into the Thanksgiving holiday. However, kids like carving pumpkins and all the mess and goo that entails. I really like Pumpkin Masters brand of carving tools.
If you don’t want to travel too far outside the city, you can still get your pumpkins and Halloween Supplies at Kroger. While I was in my local Atlanta Kroger this week, I found a huge selection of Halloween Decorations, my favorite Pumpkin Masters carving tools, and a ton of awesome spooky baking supplies. I was surprised by the amazing options for party preparation and decorating!
What’s even better is that Krogers around Atlanta are having special halloween events that include pumpkin carving! You can actually do the carving in selected Kroger stores from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, October 27th during the Moonlight Madness event. Different stores have different activities including Cake Walks, Trick or Treat Streets, Cookie Decorating, Scavenger Hunts, Halloween Coloring Sheets, Samples to eat, and Pumpkin Carving! Plus, you can pick up a few bags of candy for all of your trick or treaters!
What do you need to stock up on before Halloween? You can probably find it at Kroger on Thursday, October 27th during their Moonlight Madness event!
