For Valentine’s Day, I wanted to try some new cookies, and I found this recipe on All Recipes.   I wanted MM to have some special grown-up cookies, and these are a more mature drop cookie.  Frog ate one, and decided that he’d rather eat a Little Debbie snack! I suppose it turned out as a perfect Valentine’s treat for my husband– he didn’t have to compete with Frog to get at the homemade cookies.

My Mom Made That: Chocolate Cherry Cookies

Now, these cookies include instant coffee, and having made them, I think this ingredient is unnecessary. I’m including it in the recipe because I made the cookies with the instant coffee. However, when I make them again, I will not be including it– the coffee interferes with the chocolate and cherry flavors.  The other thing to note with this recipe is that it only makes 24 small cookies– if you are needing to make a bunch of cookies, I would double the recipe.

  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup white (granulated) sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp instant coffee (Optional!)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/3 cup semi-sweet mini chips
  • 1/3 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup dried cherries

Mix in a bowl the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt and set it aside. Cream butter with sugar.  Add in egg, coffee and vanilla.  Slowly mix in flour mixture.  Once well blended, stir in chips and cherries.

I baked the cookies at 325 for 10 min, but my oven tends to run hot.  The original recipe stated that they were to be cooked at 350 for 10-12 minutes.
